Central heat pumps consume little electrical energy since they do not produce any heat: they extract the heat found in the air outside (even when it is cold) to then send it inside of the house. For every 1 watt of electricity consumed by the heat pump when extracting heat from outside, the device sends 3 watts into the house. That’s 2 watts of free energy!
